The Philistine Culture Museum, named after Corinne Maman, was established with the support of the Ashdod Foundation thanks to the donation from the Maman family of the city of Fes in Morocco, in memory of their daughter Corinne Maman, who tragically lost her life in a car accident in 1984 while studying at the University of Montpellier in France.
The museum was initiated and founded by Dr. Aryeh Azoulay, who was then the mayor of Ashdod and the chairman of the Ashdod Foundation. The museum was inaugurated in 1990. The museum’s first director was Mrs. Gila Azoulay, and its first curator was Yael Wiesel, of blessed memory, who later managed the museum.
In 2013, the museum was renovated and expanded. It features an exhibition that tells the story of Philistine culture, with Ashdod being the central city among the five Philistine cities. The exhibition includes around 140 archaeological and digital exhibits, making the experience both refreshing and innovative.
The Philistine Culture Museum is a unique museum in Israel and worldwide, attracting numerous visitors from both Israel and abroad, as well as engaging in educational activities for school students.
